£15 525 (for 6 bottles). Sotheby▓s. Finest and Rarest Wines Featuring a Cellar of Top Bordeaux and Burgundy. London, September 10
On September 10, Sotheby's gallery at New Bond Street hold the sales Finest and Rarest Wines Featuring a Cellar of Top Bordeaux and Burgundy, devoted to rare and exclusive wines, mainly French, and mostly Bordeaux in London. The sales featuring 705 lots totaled £1 029 825.
The famous red wine 1982 Chateau Lafite was the top lot of the auction. Being rough and rich, with a light aroma of wild herbs it is considered one of the best achievements of wine makers of Bordeaux Province and, as consequence, one of the most expensive. Especially, when we talk about old vintage sorts. This wine became the most expensive lot of the auction: 12 bottles Chateau Lafite were sold for £19 550 (estimate: £14 000-14 500). The 12 bottles of the 2000 Lafite were sold by auction for £10 925.
Pomerol (dry Bordeaux) Chateau Petrus (2000) was very popular among London wine lovers. This wine is refined and because of limited production is also very rare. Vintages of 2000 and 2005 characterized with delicate taste and aroma of coffee, currant and cloves are highly appreciated. Six bottles of Chateau Petrus were sold by auction for £15 525 (estimate: £13 000).
Twelve bottles of another French wine, Shateau Latour (1982) were sold for £14 375 (estimate: £12 000-16 000). The flavour of this noble claret is characterized with soft sweetness and riches of tinges. Twelve bottles of Shateau Latour (1970) were sold for £2070. What is interesting is that the owner of Latour winery is the owner of Christie▓s auction house François Pinault. He purchased the old estate for $126 000 000 in 1993. Pinault made a team of professional wine makers and put the manufacture on a brand new level. As a result, within last 10 years, Shateau Latour is on the highest level. So, Wine Spectator gave vintages of 2003 - 98 points from 100, 2002 √ 96 from 100, 2001 √ 95 from 100, and the vintage of 2000 received the higher estimation (100/100). It means this wine is considered the master model. However, statistically, within last 40 years Latour is always on a peak of success.
Among exclusive Bordeaux is valuable white wine from Monrache Province √ Domaine Ramonet (1992). Made of grapes of Shardone sort it has the soft taste and typical dense aroma. Six bottles of Domaine Ramonet were sold for £13 225. Five bottles of the same wine, but of 1986 vintage fetched £10 120.
