Hunting sales at Gelos

A Moscow-based auction house Gelos will hold its Hunting sales on October 28. By tradition, the auction is dedicated to the opening of the hunting season. The bulk of the auctioned collection is antiquarian weapons.
The last year Hunting sales featured about five hundreds items. The auction was transmitted at the XVIII Antique Fair at the Central House of Artists in Moscow. This year Gelos will expand its auction rooms: the Kiev branch of Gelos and participants of the VII Timepieces Fair (Crocus-Expo) will take part in the event as well. The late October sales will be opened with a hunting selection presented by the Kiev branch. It comprises more than sixty items: porcelain and bronze statuettes depicting genre and hunting scenes, clocks and watches, and paintings by Soviet and Ukrainian artists of XX century.
The timepieces’ string features a variety of items including XIX–XX century European bronze desk-clocks; one of the lots is decorated with a putti figure with a burning torch (starting price 140,000–150,000 rubles).
The starting price of a hunting Damascus steel dagger in a scabbard (made in Zlatoyst, Russia, late XIX–early XX century) is 48,000 rubles. The top lot of the decorative and applied art section will probably be a figurine of a parrot made of agate and adorned with two diamonds (Russia, late XIX–early XX century, starting price 60,000 rubles). Supposedly, the figurine was manufactured by Faberge; however, bird’s legs bearing a mark have been lost. A decorative vase of multilayered polychrome glass (France, circa 1904) will be put up for sale with a starting price 120,000 rubles.
Among other interesting and important lots will be Russian and European gold coins dating XVIII–XIX century, rare old books, unique stamps, sculptures, interior decorations and paintings (for instance, a canvas «Venetian view» by George Lapshin, starting price 240,000 rubles).
