A collection of pottery made by famous Spanish artist Pablo Picasso (1881√1973), will be auctioned at Sotheby▓s London on October 26. The collection features more than 100 plates, bowls, jugs, tiles and vases decorated with classic Picasso motifs.
The estimated prices range from GBP1,000 to GBP35,000 ($1,800-$62,500). The Spanish master became interested in ceramics after seeing the work of a workshop called the Madoura Pottery at a craft fair in the south of France in 1946. The owners of the workshop Suzanne and Georges Ramie gave the enthusiastic artist an opportunity to work in their studio. Picasso created more than 600 art pieces with the Madoura Pottery, most of which belong to members of his family and to different museums.
Among the highlights of the October auction at Olympia in London will be a painted and glazed earthenware vase entitled ╚Tripode╩ created in 1951. It is just one of 75 produced and is estimate to fetch GBP28,000-35,000.
