Movie memorabilia brought more than $2.6 million at auction

The auction of movie props and costumes organized by Profiles in History auctioneers featured 550 pieces of movie memorabilia and fetched a total of more than $2.6 million. The event took place in Beverly Hills, California on July 29. A light saber used by actor Mark Hammill as he played Luke Skywalker in the original 1977 ╚Star Wars╩ was sold for $264,000. A light saber used by the character Darth Vader brought $155,000 instead of the estimated $52,000 to $79,000.
Skywalker's orange X-Wing flight suit was sold for $92,000, while a walking cane used by the Jedi sage Yoda in ╚The Empire Strikes Back╩ made $66,000, instead of the expected $11,000. A face mask used by the actor playing the hirsute Chewbacca in the movies went for $66,000, while a Stormtrooper blaster fetched $74,000.
Other items that brought big bids included a leather jacket worn by Harrison Ford in ╚Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade╩, which fetched $124,000, and leather jacket worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger in ╚The Terminator╩, which went for $54,500. Oscar-winner Tom Hanks's complete costume from war epic ╚Saving Private Ryan╩ went for $38,900.
