An auction of XIX and XX century prints and drawing took place at Swann Galleries on September 15. The sale included items from the Harry B. Henderson Collection of works by Romare Bearden, and totaled an impressive $2,629,705.
The highlights of the sale were two lots coming from the selection of Beardens. The first, a collage of various papers with ink on cardboard created in 1965 and titled ╚Pittsburgh╩, had an extensive exhibition history and a provenance of the ex-collection of the artist. The piece had been on view at the National Gallery, the Whitney, Albright Knox and at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Estimated at $30,000√50,000, the collage managed to fetch $106,375.
╚Family╩, a collage with paint, ink and pencil on wood, created in 1970, carried the same presale estimates and also had an extensive exhibition history. It was also sold for $106,375.
