On November 21 an auction house Christie▓s held Rock and Pop Memorabilia sales in New York. Featuring nearly 200 items belonging to rock 'n' roll's greatest stars, including the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen and The Who, the auction totaled impressive $661,536.

The star of the event was a collection of poems written by Minnesota college student (1959√1960) Robert Zimmerman √ later to become the ╚voice of a generation╩ as Bob Dylan. The sixteen pages of poems were purchased by an anonymous European buyer for $78,000 (£45,000). The title page to Dylan's work was inscribed in blue ink with ╚Poems Without Titles╩, while the poems were written in pencil and signed ╚Dylan╩ or ╚Dylanism╩.

A Fender composite Stratocaster electric guitar played by Eric Clapton soared past its pre-sale estimate of $3,000 to $5,000, selling to a private American collector for $36,000. A medallion worn by Jimmy Hendrix at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, when he famously set his guitar on fire, found no buyer. The piece had been estimated to sell for between $60,000 and $80,000. The words to the song ╚Not to Touch the Earth╩ written by The Doors lead singer Jim Morrison for the 1968 album ╚Waiting for the Sun╩ also went unsold.
