A new record for an Egyptian antiquity has been set at a New York Christie▓s auction. A unique limestone group statue of Ka-nefer and his family, Old Kingdom, Dynasty V, 2465√2323 BC, was sold on the auction block for 2.8 million dollars. The statue was purchased for the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, from a private US collection.
The valuable antiquity represents Ka-nefer seated on a high bench with a hieroglyphic inscription by his feet reading ╚Overseer of Craftsmen, Priest of Ptah, Ka-nefer╩. Ka-nefer's wife and son are represented at either side of Ka-nefer. Separately, an Egyptian black granite standard-bearing statue of Queen Nefertari, Dynasty XIX, Reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II, 1290√1224 BC, was sold on Friday, December 9 for a record 2.3 million dollars.
