Auto Union D-Type was designed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1939. Its famous author produced an interesting technical design: the driver was placed in front of the engine machine and the fuel tanks. This invention permitted to raise the maximum speed level to 250 km\h. The most raret and almost legendary even in its epoque, D-Type won Belgrade grand prix race in 1939.
We know the destiny of only two such D-Types. Both of them were brought to the USSR to be studied, disassembled and forgotten for years. After some time, the disassembled pieces of those cares appeared in the UK. There they were renewed according to the original projects. The experts’ opinion is that the D-Type will be sold for at least ˆ10,000,000.
Since 2002, Christie’s sold ˆ32,000,000 of classic cars. According to Rupert Banner, an auction house specialist, the February sale will be a jewel of the international classic cars sales. The Christie’s experts predict the success of this sale. They single out the time, place and class of the lots to be on sale being the reasons of such enthusiastic forecast. Our magazine will closely monitor the auction preparation progress.
