French auction house Tajan held sales dedicated to elite wines and alcoholic beverages on March 7, in Paris. Connoisseurs and collectors of rare wines had a chance to bid for 964 lots including elite red and white wines, as well as other selected beverages from all over the France.
Among the undisputable top-lots of the sale was 1919 Grand Chambertin (Rousseau). After fierce bidding, the lot consisting of two bottles of rare Burgundy red wine (estimate ┬8,500√10,000, ┬4,250√5,000 for one bottle) was purchased by an anonymous buyer for ┬15,721. The ╚oldest╩ lot at the auction was a bottle of famous red dry Ch?teau Margaux of 1900. Alas, the unique lot estimated at ┬2,800√3,000 remained unsold on March 7. A bottle of Roman?e St-Vivant (D.R.C., 1973) did not do well at the auction too. Estimated at ┬1,700√1,800 the lot managed to realize only ┬363.
Extremely fine Richebourg (H. Jayer, 1985) was the third predicted top-lot at the Tajan sale. While the experts of the auction house had estimated one bottle of that wine at ┬2,400√2,600, the lot brought impressive ┬4,474. However, Vosne-Roman?e ╚Cros Parantoux╩ 1990 (estimate ┬2,000√2,300) three times exceeded the estimate, making ┬7,014. The lot composed of five bottles of Vosne-Roman?e 1988 was sold for ┬9,916.
Other highlights of the important auction included Roman?e-Conti, 1991 (estimate ┬2,000√2,300, sold for ┬3,628), Roman?e-Conti 1972 (estimate ┬1,700√2,000, sold for ┬3,265). The price paid for two bottles of Vosne-Roman?e ╚Cros Parantoux╩ (H. Jayer, 1985) two times exceeded the estimate ┬3,000√3,400, making ┬7,377. A bottle of Vosne-Roman?e ╚Cros Parantoux╩ 1995 was hammered at ┬1,995 (estimate ┬1,200√1,400).
A bottle of Richebourg 1986 fetched ┬2,540 (estimate ┬1,150√1,300), while a bottle of refined ?chezeaux (H. Jayer, 1990) realized ┬2,116.
There were also some more lots auctioned with estimates ranging within ┬1,150√1,300. The less expensive wine was put up for sale with estimate ┬150√300. Thus, any bidder had an opportunity to buy wine according to his or hers taste and income.
