On November 28, the London-based auction house Bonhams will hold auction titled «Fine Antique Arms & Armour from the H. L. Visser Collection». The important sale will feature old arms and armour from the comprehensive collection of H. Visser.
The visitors to the event will receive an opportunity to buy rare and unique Dutch weapons dating XVIth–XVIIth centuries. According to the experts of the auction house, the sale is expected to realize 1,500,000. At the time, arms and armour made by Dutch masters was very valued in European countries, and greatly influenced development of weaponry in the world. Renowned collector H.L. Visser contributed a lot to popularization of Dutch arms. His collection of old weapons is considered to be the most comprehensive in the world. Among the stars of his assembly were forty-seven very important pistols with ivory handles. In 1950s Visser worked at the celebrated weapons factory De Kruithoorn.
In 1988 his collection of rare and unique pistols with ivory grips was displayed alongside the Royal collection of arms and armour at the Tower of London. In 1994 many pieces from his collection were shown at the exhibition «World’s Arms and Armour» at the Museum of the Dutch Army and Museum of Arms and Armour in Delft.
