Expecting Christmas holidays the auction house «Cabinet» organizes the first in Russia specialized auction «Russian Decorative and Applied Art of the XIX–XX centuries». Sales specialized in decorative and applied art are rare. They are held from time to time by Christie’s and Sotheby’s and have been never held in Russia.

Nowadays collectors and art dealers are getting more and more interested in such sales. Usually the collections feature items with unique history and of refined decor. The example is Rostropovich-Vishnevskaya collection that is going to be kept in Konstantinovsky Palace in the suburbs of St. Petersburg. World auction houses almost always put up for sale articles by Faberge Company. «Winter» Easter egg by Faberge workshop was auctioned at Christie’s in the April of 2002 for $9 579 000, setting a record for any Russian item of decorative and applied art. In the nearest future a new record could be set by an Easter egg by Faberge company put up for sale at Christie’s London salesrooms in the Russian art sales that will be held in November 28 (estimate GBP6 000 000–9 000 000 ($12 000 000–18 000 000)).

The collection of the incoming sales includes more than 130 lots – high-class jewelry and enamel items by famous masters and companies. There are 14 items with marks of Faberge Company among them works of the famous masters Victor Aarn and Alfred Tilemann. The auction will feature items with Carl Bolin mark (Maria Linke’s workshop), works by masters of workshops of Orest Kurlyukov, the brothers Grachev, Ivan Sazikov, Maria Semenova, Pavel Ovchinnikov, Ivan Khlebnikov etc.

One of «the oldest» items is a cup dated to the XVIII century. The bowl of the cup is made of coconut shell with portraits of Peter I, Catherine I and Elizabeth Petrovna carved on it.

The preview will run through 1–9 December in the gallery «Dacha», situated in Moskovskaya Oblast, Odintsovskii region, 70 Zhukovka village, the 1st floor. Through December 11–14 the collection may be seen in the office of the auction house «Cabinet» in the Central House of Artists (see the address below) from 11.00 till 19.00. The sales will be held in December 15 in the hotel «Zolotoye Koltso» («Golden Ring») at the following address: Moscow, 5 Smolenskaya str.
