On March 12, London New Bond Street is hosting the sales named Russian Contemporary Sale. The auction will represent works by contemporary Russian artists.
Top lot of the auction is «Before Sunset» by Oleg Vasilyev. The work made in 1990 is estimated at GBP200 000–300 000. As Vasilyev wrote in 1991 this picture is «Soviet reality represented in romantic way». This picture is one of his early historical-political works after his emigration to the USA. In Moscow the artist was in constant search of art conceptions. It was necessary for him to leave the USSR for New York to make physical and psychological distance which could help to conceive issues of his life.
Bronze sculpture «Soldier ¹4» of AES+F group is estimated at GBP100 000–150 000. It is full of political hints and reminiscences of Moscow nonconformist. This work exemplifies youth which is a great value and is one of marketable goods in modern society. Isolated stagnated young man lacks of his personal lineaments and being captured in a trap of time he becomes a symbol of infantilism.
«Spiral Composition 2» by Francisco Infanta is estimated at GBP60 000–80 000. The provenance of the canvas (1964–1972) is from the collection of the very Moscow artist.
«Pipa» by Leonid Purygin is estimated at GBP50 000–70 000. In 1988 Purygin wrote: «Most of all I like when my works are characterized as «mystical realism». In this space is my life. When I start to create I enter the imagery space and live in it. Then I return all I came through to our world. This is a mystical emotional experience».
