Art Basel will be held for the 35th time from June 16 to 21, 2004. It is the world▓s largest and most important fair for modern and contemporary art and the annual meeting place of the international art world including collectors, gallery owners, artists, curators and art enthusiasts from all over the world. 270 galleries from all five continents will participate, selected by the ╚Art Committee╩ from 850 applications. Every form of artistic expression will be represented at Art 35 Basel, showing works by over 1,500 artists of the XX and XXI century. The repertoire ranges from paintings, drawings and editions through sculptures and installations to performances, internet and video art. The outstanding reputation of Art Basel is based on the high quality and unique variety of the works of art and on the international composition of its visitors. Around 50,000 visitors and almost 1,500 representatives of the media from all over the world are expected to take part in the event.

There will also be special sectors at the fair where print graphics, film and one-person shows by young artists will be presented. The ╚Art Unlimited╩ hall provides a platform for works of art that have previously only rarely or never been exhibited at art shows owing to restrictions of space, time, financial means, technical facilities or conceptual limitations. In ╚Art Unlimited╩ the emphasis is on innovative and large-format works of art of all kinds that will be on show and available for purchase in an open exhibition rather than individual gallery stands. A separate limited-edition catalog of ╚Art Unlimited╩ will be published in time for the opening of Art Basel. This year, the newly designed exhibition square offers for the first time an ideal platform to present outdoor projects in an urban setting. There will also be the ╚Art Basel Conversations╩ with the collaboration of world renown jeweler and luxury giant Bvlgari. These presentations and roundtable discussions will feature renowned personalities of the international art scene who will present and discuss their ideas and projects relating to the topic of collecting. Then, in the ╚Art Lobby╩, famous and interesting artists, gallery owners, curators, collectors and critics can be met and addressed in person, making it an ideal platform for the informal exchange of information and ideas between artists, intermediaries and the public. Also, the ╚yellow dot╩ campaign launched with great success last year, marking works of art costing less than 5,000 euros, will be repeated this year.

The cultural institutions of the city will be presenting accompanying events and exhibitions that complement the international art show. Aimed at museums, art dealers and collectors, Art Basel is launching a new feature, the ╚Professional Day╩ on the closing day of the show. It is directed at museums, artists and collectors. For them, there will be a special program in and around the art show. This includes information and discussion forums with internationally renowned speakers. Participation in the Professional Day is free of charge; however, it is limited to specialists of the art profession.
