Previous February was extremely full of events at a world market of antiques. Russian collectors and art-dealers influenced it a lot. It can be said that last month art-market development was marked by Russia. It began with Sotheby’s and Christie’s sales where price records were made owing to our nationals in many respects.
Purchase of unique violin made by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu, celebrated master of the 18th century by Maxim Viktorov, Russian businessman and patron of art at Sotheby’s sales was one of the most stunning events. Henri Vieuxtemps, famous Belgium violinist and composer was a former owner of this instrument. Russian paid for it a sum which became a new world record for musical instruments.
Sales of the «Cabinet» auction house were significant event on
a way of the approach of Russian market of antiques to world prices. Absolute price record for Russian decorations was made. Diamond Star of Order of Saint Catherine was the main top lot of the auction sold for
$1 000 000.
Previous February showed that native collectors and art-dealers have influential power at a world scene of antiques.
