First days of XIX Russian Antique Fair
The XIX Russian Antique Fair was opened at the Moscow Central House of Artists (CHA) on October 22. The first Fair took place nine years ago, and now this show is considered to be one of the most important events at the national antiquarian market. Leading art galleries, art stores and prominent Russian collectors brought masterpieces from their collections to the Fair. Not only experts, critics and collectors, but also prominent public figures come to see subject exhibitions covering latest tendencies at the art and antiques market.
It has become a must to visit a Russian Antique Fair for those who pretend to live the high life in Moscow. More than 40,000 guests are expected to visit the Fair this year. Traditionally, the first floor of the CHA is designed as a «Golden Street»; that creates a special festive atmosphere.
On the second day of the Fair, October 23, a well-known Moscow gallery «Sovcom» held an auction at CHA. The sales with 97 lots of 124 sold attracted a great number of bidders. The top-lot of the auction – a painting by Alexander Drevin «View from the window. The Menshikov Tower» (1929) – realized impressive $145,000.
According to a reporter of a news agency «Russian Antique», the majority of exhibited items are paintings and jewelry. For comparison, the last Antique Fair featured much more furniture and interior pieces than the present one.
