| V. Serov. Portrait of Duchess O. Orlova. 1911. Oil on canvas [zoom (58k)] |
An exhibition dedicated to life and oeuvre of one of the most famed Russian artists Valentin Serov (1865√1911) opened at the ╚Benoit wing╩ of the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg on November 3. Russian art circles celebrated Serov▓s 140th anniversary in 2005. The show includes about one hundred drawings, 25 oil paintings and 24 prints.
The comprehensive exposition based on the rich collection of the State Russian Museum centers on drawing and prints. Serov▓s graphic works are highly valued by art experts and collectors, but are little known to wide public, because due to high flimsiness of paper and danger of possible fading of water colours drawings by Serov rarely appear at permanent or temporary expositions.
