Photo-exhibition of works by a famous Russian dancer and choreographer Michael Baryshnikov titled «Moments in time» was opened at the State Pushkin Museum of Fine arts in Moscow on December 8. The display features thirty photo-works: portraits, stil-lifes, and landscapes. According to art-critics, among the most important photos at the show is a portrait of Joseph and Maria Brodsky.
This is the second Baryshnikov’s exhibition in Russia. The first one took place at a private Museum of Photography in St. Petersburg this autumn. The dancer has been creating photo-works for more than twenty years. Interestingly, 55 years old Baryshnikov very rarely turns to ballet subjects, as he tries to depict something that is uncommon to him.
Each picture at the showcase has its own history. A portrait of a great American photographer Richard Avedon was made in 2004 in New York. It is known, that Avedon hated to pose for portraits. Still, Baryshnikov convinced him to spare five minutes for a photo, because Avedon had been photographing the dancer for 30 years.
