Thieves made off with a Chagall lithograph and a linoleum cut by Picasso after forcing open a side door of an art gallery in this resort community, authorities said Thursday.

The thieves triggered the alarm and were inside the Modern Masters Fine Art Gallery less than two minutes before police arrived, said Riverside County sheriff's Cpl. Dennis Gutierrez.

"With the quick turnaround time ┘ they went in with a plan," Gutierrez said.

In 1959, Picasso created the linoleum cut "Femme Regardant par la Fenetre," which depicts a partially nude female peering out a window. It has been valued at $53,000, informs Associated Press.

Chagall's lithograph, "The Tribe of Dan," mirrors one of the 12 stained-glass windows the artist created for Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. Each window represents the 12 tribes of Israel. The lithograph was valued at $35,000.

Co-owner Michael Gudelauski said the thieves passed over more expensive pieces when they broke in after the last employee left late Tuesday.
