Nikita Lobanov-Rostovsky [zoom (70k)]

On February 15, Prince Nikita Lobanov-Rostovsky, patron of art and collector donated two pictures of the early 20th century to The Pushkin museum of fine arts. Irina Antonova, director of the museum said: ╚One of the pictures is pictorial work of art ╚Poet▓s Melancholy╩ (1916) by Giorgio de Chirico, the other is watercolor ╚Black Zigzag╩ (1924) by Teo van Doesburg╩.

Pictures are estimated at ┬260 000. Presented on Friday two canvases by Nikita Lobanov-Rostovsky is a gratitude to the museum for the organization of the exhibition of works from his collection in 1988. Prince has already presented 400 pieces of art to Russia.

Nikita Lobanov-Rostovsky lives now in London with his first wife Nina, daughter of French ambassador in the USA. They collected a huge collection for their life. Experts consider their works one of the greatest foreign collections of Russian art. The Prince▓s collection includes works made by Bakst, Benois, Goncharova, Korovin, Larionov, Somov, Sudeykin, Malevich and Chagall.

Nikita Dmitriyevich Lobanov-Rostovsky, patron of art, hereditary Russian aristocrat of Ryurikovich Family was born in 1935 in Sophia. He was a former adviser of the auction houses Christie's and Sotheby's. He is a member of board of directors of the London Theater Museum Association, the International Art Education Fund (Washington), life member of Metropolitan Benevolent Union (New York), member of the board of Institute of Modern Russian Culture in Los Angeles (California), member of ╚Moscow Collector╩. His wife is a consultant concerning the issues of the Russian applied art at Sotheby's and Christie's.
