On July 13, Houston Museum of Arts opens the art exhibition devoted to pictures of Fontainebleau wood made by different artists. The residence of French kings of Fontainebleau and its wood used for royal hunting became a favourite subject of landscapes by many French artists. According to organizers the exhibition is an opportunity to visit romantic corners of Fontainebleau wood with its unique landscapes. The exhibition will represent three generations of artists for whom Fontainebleau nature was ╚a natural workshop╩ in the period of 1820 √ 1870s (there was free admission). The unique natural oasis is located in 35 km from Paris and has never been inhabited. C. Corot's picture Small Portable Easel shows such situation. Artists took portable easels and stayed in the open air to paint another picture.

In spite of the fact that each new generation had its own creative motives, individual media all pictures are full of freshness in perception of nature. Many painters cooperated having created groups, schools. Such famous artists as F. Daubigny, T. Russo, G. Courbet belonged to Barbizon School. The French landscape genre had a golden age. This rise was over in the end of the XIX century with work of young impressionists, C. Monet and his Fontainebleau Wood in particular.

In addition to pictures of woods, weather, rocks and trees the exhibition will represent rural landscapes. F. Millet is considered one of the outstanding masters of this kind of landscapes. In his pictures he depicted not only rural nature but also people (for example, Shepherdess Knitting, outside the Village of Barbizon). This and other pictures of the exhibition represent the whole epoch of the French painting and the intensity of artists▓ admiration with Fontainebleau nature.
