Antiq.Info #59 (December 2007)

Dear readers!
The year 2007 is coming to its end. Interest towards Russian art and Russian antiquarian business is constantly growing nowadays. The major international auction houses and firms eagerly hold subject Russian sales featuring masterpieces by prominent national artists. New price records were set at the so-called «Russian week» sales in Europe recently.
No wonder, top-lots of Russian auctions are hammered at prices dozens of times exceeding pre-sale estimates. Among the most notable latest sensations was the sell of Rostropovich-Vishnevskaya collection, purchased by a Russian collector before the official sale. Interestingly, the important collection was passed to the Konstantinovsky Palace. It seems to be a good tradition: a unique Faberge egg acquired by Alexander Ivanov in the late November for $18.5 million will be passed to a state exhibition hall as well.
It is very likely, that the names of modern collectors will someday become as recognized as the ones of the famous patrons of art of the past.

Happy New Year and good luck!

Maxim Chernykh,
General Director of CJSC Russian Antique,
Editor-in-Chief of “Antiq.Info” magazine
