American multi-millionaire Eli Broad (Eli Broad) is one of the tenth greatest collectors of works of art in the world. He declared that he was not going to donate items of his collection to museums. Mr. Broad will be the owner of two thousand works in spite of his recent intentions. His opinion is that today it is better to direct efforts to help museums to make a general collection of modern art available.
Eli Broad’s fortune is estimated in $6 000 000 000. He is the founder and the president of constructive company KB Home and insurance company SunAmerica Inc. Previously he informed of his intention to pass his rich collection to Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) and other institutions. But all works of art were left in Broad’s fund. Though after being founded in 1984 about 7000 works were provided for expositions in 400 museums and galleries.
Broad told that works of art donated to private and state museums are very often kept in store-rooms. Fund of the American multi-millionaire is a peculiar library for museums where one can take works of art for a time. Broad thinks that his organization can be a good example for collectors who can not find a way how to use their priceless treasure.
Broad’s collection in California includes modern art from Andy Warhol (Andy Warhol) to Jeff Koons (Jeff Koons). One of those who “possess” Broad’s works is ambassador of the USA Robert Tuttle (Robert Tuttle). He embellished his residence in London with a canvas “Regret” (1966) by Roy Lichtenstein (Roy Lichtenstein) with an image of a crying woman.
An exhibition of two hundred works from the collection of the American multi-millionaire will be opened in February 16th in The Museum of Modern Art.
