Antiq.Info #39 (April 2006)

Dear readers!

In childhood, most of us used to start our own small collections of stamps, coins, toy automobiles or dolls. When grown, we often forget about our old treasures. However, some people turn their childhood hobbies into profession and eventually develop into serious collectors. Antique dolls and teddy bears become the subject matter of serious research, while real old-timers and rare motorcycles take the place of toy cars. The XX Antique Show held in Moscow through the late February — early March demonstrated that the number of devoted collectors in Russia is permanently increasing. Traditionally, the Fair was in the spotlight of the public; moreover, this year it gathered together 207 companies — the new record for the important event. Russian art proves to be extremely popular at the international market. This spring many of the world leading auction houses are holding special «Russian sales». As expected the majority of potential buyers at these auctions will be our fellow-countrymen. While Russian collectors show their patriotic feelings investing money in unique artworks, we continue informing our readers about remarkable collections and major art and antique events worldwide.

General Director of the JSC «Russian Antique»,
