Antiq.Info #40 ( May 2006)

Dear readers!

In the world of antiques, time is as important and valued as it is in modern life. The older an artwork is — the greater its price and value becomes. An exceptional clock created by óarl Faberge whose 160th anniversary we will celebrate in May, is a perfect example of this statement. Prices for works of the famed company are constantly growing. The May sales will show how high they can rise. However, not all of rare and unique art pieces survived up to now are preserved in original shape and condition. It is a difficult task to take care of fine objects, especially porcelain and glass pieces. Big services rarely survive in full, as fragile works break easily. Remained art pieces produced at such renowned enterprises as the Meissen porcelain factory or Imperial porcelain factory in St. Petersburg are highly sought-after at the major auctions and antique fairs worldwide. It is even harder to preserve antiquarian items during times of social disruption or war times. In the course of World War II, people often sacrificed their lives in order to save cultural and historical valuables. On behalf of the «Antiq.Info» magazine, I would like to express our profound gratitude to war veterans as well as to museum staff members who managed to preserve unique art collections. Congratulations on Victory Day! Our May issue is dedicated to the phenomenon of time, to delicate witnesses of the past epochs and the price of their protection.

General Director of the JSC «Russian Antique»,
Editor-in-Chief of the «Antiq.Info» magazine
