Victoria and Albert Museum▓s Arts and Crafts show in the US

Indianapolis Museum of Art will host the Victoria and Albert Museum's traveling exhibition of International Arts and Crafts. The renovated and expanded museum will be the first American venue for the largest Arts and Crafts shows ever mounted and the first to display the movement's influence in Europe, America and Japan.
The Arts and Crafts movement originated in Great Britain in the 1880s as a response to the Industrial Revolution and its machine-dominated production. Led by theorists John Ruskin and William Morris, the movement promoted the ideals of craftsmanship and individualism along with the integration of art into everyday life.
The exhibition will feature more than three hundred pieces from Great Britain, America, Central and Northern Europe, and Japan. A variety of objects will show how the Arts and Crafts movement influenced all aspects of life worldwide.
The highlights of the exhibition are two reconstructed furnished interiors of the period, an American Craftsman room inspired by Gustav Stickley, and a Japanese room from a pavilion built for a 1928 Tokyo exhibition. Other attractions include furniture by Gustave Stickley, and objects created by designers Josef Hoffmann, Hamada Shoji, C.F.A. Voysey, Frank Lloyd Wright and Rookwood Pottery.
